NEW QUILTS FROM AN OLD FAVORITE: FOOD
This international contest and exhibition organized by the National Quilt Museum challenges quiltmakers to create an innovative quilt based on a theme and specific traditional pattern. Finalists of the contest usually include quilts from many different U.S. states and several other countries.
The 2026 theme is Food. The quilt must be about food in some recognizable way and include an interpretation of a block pattern of the artist’s choosing. Quilts are selected for their excellence in design, techniques, and innovation. All quilts are original designs.
This year’s finalists are from 20 states and 3 countries. Three outside judges made the final decisions regarding first, second, and third places. The exhibition will travel to five AQS (American Quilter’s Society) QuiltWeek shows in 2026 and 2027.
For New Quilts from an Old Favorite 2028 the theme is Monochromatic. Entries will be accepted online starting in September 2027. Watch our social media and website for more information.
