“This body of work is a glimpse of me–stitched with hope, layered with vision, growing into a voice that is wholly my own. Each quilt whispers my journey: learning to trust my voice, to honor the visions only I can see, to stand tall in rooms that may not yet hold space for me.
“Hip hop raised me. My folks made me. I carry both the beat and the blessing. I am the quilt of generations–pieced from their victories, bound by their struggles, quilted with the echoes of deferred dreams. Still, I dream. I dream in color, in rhythm, in fabric and thread. And maybe–just maybe–what I creat here is proof that I am, indeed, my ancestors’ wildest dream. “
About the Artist
Latifah Saafir is known for her bold and innovative modern quilts. Combining her training as an engineer with her lifelong passion for sewing, Latifah creates designs that are graphic and contemporary, featuring challenging techniques with meticulous attention to detail. A co-founder of both the Los Angeles Modern Quilt Guild and the worldwide Modern Quilt Guild, Latifah currently teaches workshops to guilds around the country.
