Charles Cameron:

A Curious Modern Quilter

About the Artist

Charles Cameron, a North Carolina-based Modern Quilter, is an Engineer by training and vocation while tending toward creative endeavors to maintain balance. His daughters’ playful experimentation and inquisitive approach toward learning are the model for his curious approach. Not knowing how to do something can be a powerful enabler toward creating something extraordinary; to not be bound by ‘the ways that others do things,’ or ‘the ways that things ought to be done.’ He is not afraid to bend what should be a straight line.

Charles’ work explores the use of bright colors, color value, and a mixture of precision and whimsey to reinvent more traditional quilt patterns and designs. He is excited by setting rules for color placement and constructing blocks in an efficient, assembly-line fashion; then trimming blocks with a ‘wonky’ tilt and relying on my eyes’ intuition to place the finished pieces in a way that maximizes impact.
