National Quilt Museum

Acquisition Proposal

Incendiary by Helena Scheffer

The National Quilt Museum’s mission is to honor today’s quilters by acquiring the best of contemporary quilting in a wide range of styles, techniques, inspiration, and unique artistic voices.  The NQM collection committee, made up of board members, only considers quilts made within the last 10 years.

The main criteria for acquiring quilts:

    • The quilt is appropriate to the NQM mission.
    • The legal title of the quilt is firmly established.
    • The quilt is of high quality.

A majority vote of the collection committee is required to approve the acquisition.

After an acquisition is approved, relevant background and history pertaining to the quilt and artist will be obtained and recorded. Complete and accurate records shall be maintained for all acquisitions.

If you have questions, email Rachael Baar, NQM curator.
