NEW QUILTS FROM AN OLD FAVORITE: FOOD
CONTEST RULES & GUIDELINES
- Anyone can enter a cloth quilt by submitting an online entry form, entry fee, and two digital images (one full view and one detail). Entries open online September 2, 2025.
- All entries may be processed online and arrive at The National Quilt Museum by January 14, 2026.
- The entry fee is $50 for U.S. and International entries and may be paid online with a credit card or PayPal.
- The NQOF competition and exhibition is held every two years.
- The quilt must be 24 inches wide by 40 inches long (portrait orientation). It may not be framed with wood, metal, etc. There must be a 4 inch sleeve for hanging the quilt, along with an identification label with the artist’s name, year, address, and the title of the quilt sewn to the lower left corner of the back.
- The quilt must be constructed and hand or machine quilted by the person(s) named on the entry form. No kits, please!
- Limit one entry per person or team.
- The quilt, in some recognizable way, must be about “Food” and must include an interpretation of a traditional block pattern of your choosing. All quilts must be original designs; no adaptions or copyrighted patterns. The artist must include the name of the traditional block on the entry form.
- Jurors review the digital images to decide which quilts are accepted for the competition and exhibition. Artists are notified of the jurors’ decision by email no later than January 28, 2026.
- Accepted quilt must be shipped to The National Quilt Museum to arrive by February 18, 2026 for judging.
- Award winners are chosen by a panel of judges and are notified by phone and/or email by March 4, 2026.
- Quilts judged too fragile for the traveling exhibition, as well as incomplete, torn or soiled quilts, are rejected and returned to their maker/owner.
- All quilts in the exhibition must be available to travel to other venues through January 2028.
- Quilts are photographed for use in publications, publicity, and for education purposes.
