Easy Machine Methods for Traditional Applique and English Paper Piecing (and how to Quilt them)! with Kris Vierra
August 16-18, 2018
Cost: Public $385/Friend of the Museum $345
This is a NQM exclusive! I will be combining three of my most popular classes. "Machine Needle Applique" "Easy Machine English Paper Piecing", and "So I got it pieced, Now What?"
Have you always loved the look of needle turn applique, but hated the time involved? Wanted to make a Grandma's flower garden quilt, but didn't want to spend months hand piecing? Just don't particularly like handwork? Then this is the class for you. Students will learn how to do fast and easy needle turn projects using their sewing machine. This method is not only fast and easy; it will have you making smooth curves and perfect points every time. We will then expand on this method and I will show you my super easy machine method for English Paper piecing. NO marking, no paper removal and no "Y" seams involved, also no splitting of hexagons. We will cover how to make and piece a variety of different hexagon quilt all on your domestic sewing machine. You will love this fun, fast, and easy method.
After we have our tops assembled, we will talk about how to quilt them. Everyone has gotten to the end of a quilt pattern and read with dread the words Quilt as Desired. What exactly does this mean? This class will talk about different ways to quilt your quilts. What quilting patterns compliment piecework vs. applique, straight lines vs. curves. We will also discuss quilting density, which type of thread to use and ways to plan out your quilting with minimal marking. Please bring your trouble tops and we will try and talk about how to quilt as many as possible.
