June 4th - August 31st, 2021
More than 200 makers entered quilts for the juried Quarantine Quilts exhibition planned for the Houston International Quilt Festival in 2020 but canceled due to the pandemic. During the selection process, Sandra Sider's goal was to include a variety of themes and styles, staying within the size requirements for the show at the Convention Center. Except for a piece by one Canadian artist, all quilts in the exhibition are by artist residing in the United States. These 27 art quilts are illustrated in a a special section of her book Quarantine Quilts: Creativity in Midst Chaos along with works created by seventy other artists. Their narratives about quarantine document the resilience of the human spirit.
