This block was created by Becky Glasby, inspired by the 2021 School Block Challenge. The School Block Challenge is a nationwide contest open to students in grades K-12, in which students create a 16" X 16" quilt block using a recognizable piece of the fabric given, and must have either some hand stitching or machine stitching. This contest is sponsored by Moda Fabrics, who provides 3 different fabrics that are distributed each August to interested teachers, parents, families, youth leaders, etc.
Each year, the entries cover a wide range of topics, sometimes a similar idea appearing across a grade level, class, or location. One theme that came up a lot this year was the beach.
