February’s block is inspired by a pair of Nancy Ann Sobel quilts, both titled A Midwinter Night’s Dream. After the completion of the larger quilt, Nancy challenged herself to miniaturize it, and guest designer Laura Hendrickson took it one step “smaller” to create this month’s pattern.
Laura also curated the Stitched in All Sizes exhibit, which includes quilts from the museum’s collection and showcases artistry on both ends of the scale: from our smallest miniature (3.75 inches) to our largest quilt (110 inches) arranged in mixed pairs and groupings. Visitors are encouraged to look beyond the size of a quilt and find connections between them.
