Malka Dubrawsky's Workshop
Shape it Up: Patterning Fabric with Itajime Shibori - July 9 - 11, 2015
In this workshop we will pattern cotton fabric using a wide variety of plexiglass shapes and working with base fabrics ranging from undyed white to hand and commercially dyed solids as well as commercial prints. We will also explore a few simple project possibilities with our newly crafted and completely unique fabrics.
About Malka Dubrawsky
Eighth grade art class introduced me to art and I haven't been the same since. I went on to graduate from college with a Bachelor of Fine Art in Studio Art. It was being at home with children that pushed me into working with textiles. And it was my interest in fabric that led me to explore dyeing and patterning fabric.
For several years I worked primarily as a fiber artist and was lucky enough to be included in some very prestigious shows and publications among which were Quilt National and Visions and Fiberarts: Design Book 7.
Fast forward a few years and I'm making more functional textiles, designing fabric for Moda Fabrics, teaching and lecturing, and, oh my, writing two books, Color Your Cloth: A Quilter's Guide to Dyeing and Patterning Fabric and Fresh Quilting: Fearless Color, Design, and Inspiration.
I also do design work for a bunch of other craft books and magazines and teach an online Craftsy class focused on dyeing and patterning fabric.
All that and I still bake a mean chocolate cake.
