From National Quilt Museum CEO, Frank Bennett
Celebrating 30 Years!
As we celebrate 30 years of serving the quilting community, there is something for everyone in 2021!
Thirty years ago, Bill and Meredith Schroeder started The National Quilt Museum to honor, promote, and support the work of today's quilter. Over the last three decades, the museum has grown to achieve global reach, with exhibits, programs, and communications reaching millions of people every year. We want to thank the amazing artists and supporters that have made our success possible. We are excited about what the future will bring, and we are honored to play a role in expanding the art of quilting!
We are making our 30th anniversary special with exciting in-facility exhibits, digital exhibits, and programming in 2021. If you are able to travel in 2021, do not miss the amazing exhibits we have in the museum this year. Eighteen exhibit experiences are on the schedule this year, featuring many highly respected and admired artists, including Karen Linduska, Arturo Alonzo Sandoval, Denise Labadie, Cathy Erickson, Maggie Weiss, Denise Mucci Furnish, Valerie C. White, and John Lefelhocz. The museum will also be featuring exhibits from the Studio Art Quilt Association (SAQA) and the Modern Quilt Guild (MQG) this year.
In the exhibit, “Sew Many Quilts: Celebrating 30 Years of The National Quilt Museum,” we will take you on a trip through our collection featuring everything from the first quilt we owned to the most recent acquisitions. We will also take a look back at the challenges of 2020 with the exhibit, “Quarantine Quilts: Creativity in the Midst of Chaos. One of our most widely anticipated exhibits is "Never Forget: Quilts from the 9/11 Memorial & Museum." This exhibit was created through a partnership with the 9/11 Memorial & Museum in New York, and it is exclusively at the National Quilt Museum later this year. To see the full schedule, go to www.QuiltMuseum.org/2021.
If you are unable to travel and you don't want to miss any of these amazing exhibits, Quilt Museum Digital will make it possible to enjoy the museum from the comfort of your own home. We have over 30 videos scheduled for Quilt Museum Digital in 2021, including digital exhibits, artist interviews, deep dives into The Collection of The National Quilt Museum, educational videos, and some behind-the- scenes looks into how the museum operates. If you have not signed up for Quilt Museum Digital yet, go to www.QuiltMuseumDigital.com and start binge-watching!
Lastly, do not miss this year's Block of the Month club. Block of the Month Season 3 started on January 1st, but it’s not too late to get started. Join the community of over 17,000 quilters and start making your quilt today. To join this free group, go to Facebook.com and search for National Quilt Museum Block of the Month.
Thank you for all of your support over the last 30 years. We look forward to a wonderful 2021! If you have questions about any of these programs, please email email@example.com.
