There are so many ways to have fun in quilting - color, fabric, design, and technique. With such glorious choices, our challenge is to spend our time exactly in the way that satisfies us most, and produces the most stunning results. Karen's recent quilt "Reptile Wisdom" is an expanded two-color palette, utilizing English paper-piecing by machine, paper foundation piecing, and machine applique, and was delicious fun from beginning to end. Sound like a starting place? Participants may opt to begin a single project, or explore samples of many techniques. Students will also participate in collaborative and individual interpretive color work.
About Karen Stone
A quilter since 1986, Karen's inspiration manifests equally of innovation and tradition. Her quilts have won numerous awards, including first prizes in international competitions, and her designs appear frequently in exhibition. Her Clam Session quilt received the Master of Innovative Artistry award at IQA in 2009, and her Indian Orange Peel Quilt was the People's Choice at Quilt National '95. Having enjoyed success in design, publication and teaching, she finds no greater satisfaction than in hand-stitching binding onto a newly quilted piece, with the possible exception of students returning to report they're having a lot more fun quilting since taking her color class. Karen holds degrees in Piano from Baylor and Indiana Universities, has two beautiful daughters, the perfect dog, three horrible cats, a very nice beau, and lives in Dallas and Beaumont, Texas.
