Scout Activities

We offer activities and programs for Girl Scouts of all ages that can be scheduled throughout the year. These aim to introduce Scouts to the art of quilting and inspire their creativity on their Scout journey.

Tours & Hands-On:

Scheduled tours for troops of all ages are free and must be scheduled at least 2 weeks in advance. Tours are approximately 30 minutes. The Museum is unavailable for tours during the annual AQS Paducah Quilt Show held the last week of April. To schedule a tour and/or Hands-on please contact Sherry Johnston at 270-442-8856 x209 or Becky Glasby at 270-442-8856 x213.The following hands-on projects can be added to a scheduled tour at a cost of $1.00/girl.
  • Quilt Block Designer: All Ages, 30min. activity
  • Spirals: All Ages, 30 min. activity
  • Paper Folded Star: All ages, 45 min. activity
  • Postcards: Brownie & Up, 30 min. activity
  • Fabric Printing: Junior & Up, 45min. activity
  • Leaf Pounding: Cadette & Up, 45 min activity – available during Spring

How to Sign Up for Programs:

The following programs are available for all Troops and must be scheduled at least 2 weeks in advance. Minimum for all activities is 5 girls. To schedule a specific program please contact Becky Glasby at 270-442-8856 x213.
    • Daisy:

      • Sock Puppet Animals:
        Create a sock puppet animal and explore how animals are represented on quilts. Materials provided, short tour & snack included. Max. 20 $5.00/girl 1 1/2 hours
      • Flower Garden:
        Create your own flower bouquet banner. Learn about several types of flowers and how they are used in quilting. Materials provided, snack & short tour included. Max. 25 $5.00/girl 1 1/2 hours.
  • Brownie:

    • Little Quilts Brownie Rainbows:
      Create rainbow inspired mini quilts while learning how to use a sewing machine. Materials provided, snack & short tour included. Max. 20 $10. 00/girl 3 hours.
    • Yo-Yo Fun:
      Learn to hand stitch fabric yo-yos and use them to create fun pins and a greeting card. Materials provided, snack & short tour included. Max. 20 $5.00/girl 2 hours.
  • Juniors:

    • Up-cycled style:
      Create a drink cozy and mug rug with recycled denim while using the sewing machine. Girls can bring a pair of old jeans if desired. Materials and snack included. Max. 12 $10.00/girl 2 1/2 hours.
    • Fabric Flowers:
      Learn to hand stitch while making two types of fabric flowers perfect for accessories or gift decoration. Materials provided, short tour & snack included. Max. 10 $6.00/girl 2 hours.
    • Little Quilts:
      Design and create a mini quilt using half-square triangles, while using the sewing machine. Materials provided, snack & tour included. Max. 20 $10.00/girl 3 hours.
    • Pillow Fun:
      Learn to make a French-seam pillowcase for your next late night party or camp trip using the sewing machine. Materials provided & snack included. Max. 12 $5.00/girl 1 1/2 hours.
    • Art of Trees:
      Create a leaf pounding wall hanging using hammers and a sewing machine. See how trees are depicted in quilts. Materials provided, snack & short tour included. Available during Spring & Summer. Max. 10 $5.00/girl 2 hours.
    • Bag Making:
      Make your own drawstring bag using rotary cutters and the sewing machine. Materials provided and snack included. Max. 12 $5.00/girl 2 1/2 hours.
  • Cadette:

    • Art of Trees:
      Create a leaf pounding wall hanging using hammers and a sewing machine. See how trees are depicted in quilts. Materials provided, snack & short tour included. Available during Spring & Summer. Max. 10 girls $5.00/girl 2 hours.

      Explore women in the field of textile arts and create a found object quilt block with hand & machine stitching. Girls are encouraged to bring small found objects such as: shoelaces, old keys, unmatched earrings, beads, etc. Materials provided, snack & tour included. Max. 12 $6.00/girl 2 hours.
    • Table Runner:
      Create a quilted table runner using rotary cutters and the sewing machine. Materials provided & snack included. Max. 12 $10.00/girl 3 hours.
    • Pillow Fun:
      Learn to make a French-seam pillowcase for your next late night party or camp trip using the sewing machine. Materials provided & snack included. Max. 12 $5.00/girl 1 1/2 hours.
